The ten interview questions that come up most, and how to answer them

One page per question: what the interviewer is actually testing, a structure that fits it, one example answer marked as an example, the mistakes people make, and a button that opens the question on camera so you can practise it.

How should I use these pages?

Read the page for a question, decide your real example or reason before you record, then answer it on camera and read the transcript back.

Each page follows the same shape, because the preparation does: what the interviewer is listening for, the structure that answers it, an example written for the page so you can hear the shape, and the mistakes that cost people the question. None of the examples is a real candidate’s, and none is for reading out: change every fact to your own. The button at the end opens the practice page with that question loaded. Two answers are free, with full Pro feedback on each.

Tell me about yourself

The opening question. Present, past, future, in about a minute, ending on this role.

Why do you want this role?

One real moment, what you did about it, and the one thing about this role that made you apply.

Why law? (clerkships)

The clerkship version: the moment, the test, and why commercial practice in particular.

Tell me about a time you worked in a team

STAR with everyone’s part named, one decision that relied on someone else, and the group’s result.

Tell me about a time you made a mistake

The mistake, the next hour, the fix, and the habit you have kept since.

Tell me about a time you handled conflict

Two legitimate positions, a conversation that found the real issue, and your own part.

What’s your greatest weakness?

A real weakness with a cost, a specific habit, and a modest sign it is improving.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

A direction rather than a title, and this role as the next step towards it.

Why should we hire you?

Two or three things the role needs, evidence for each, and the gap named honestly.

Do you have any questions for us?

One about the work, one from the conversation, one you sincerely want answered.

Practise before it counts

Pick a question above, answer it on camera, and get honest feedback on how it landed.
